    The Client

    Meet Momentus

Momentus Technologies provides end-to-end event and venue management software to leading organizations around the world. Its platform brings together the data, resources, and workflows teams need to increase bookings, coordinate complex event operations, use venue space efficiently, and improve revenue.

Because Momentus sits at the center of its clients’ operations, payments are a critical part of the experience. Historically, Momentus supported several customer-selected payment integrations through a bring-your-own-gateway model. This gave clients flexibility, but Momentus did not participate in the payment economics and its internal teams carried the burden of maintaining multiple gateway connections.

    Solution

    Fully branded payments

    The Problem

From maintaining gateways to building a payments business

Under the bring-your-own-gateway model, Momentus maintained several separate payment integrations for its customers but did not monetize the transactions flowing through them. Supporting those integrations also required ongoing attention from IT and introduced security overhead around sensitive payment information.

More than a year before adopting dhango, Momentus brought in its own payment provider to build a payments offering it could monetize. The internal team spent over a year on the build, time that could have gone toward the core platform work Momentus's customers rely on every day.

Building and maintaining competitive payments infrastructure in-house is a specialized, ongoing commitment, not a one-time project, and continuing down that path meant tying up engineering capacity indefinitely. Momentus was now carrying both sides of the problem: a payments build that would require continued investment to reach scale, and a collection of legacy gateway integrations that still had to be managed.

    The Solution

Production-ready infrastructure with dhango + Stripe

Momentus selected dhango as its payments infrastructure layer and Stripe as its processor, replacing the custom monetized-payments platform its internal team had been developing. The implementation brought merchant onboarding, payment data management, transaction visibility, reporting, and operational tools together in one fully branded payments experience. Momentus also moved selected legacy bring-your-own-gateway integrations to dhango, creating a single infrastructure layer for both its monetized Stripe offering and supported customer-selected gateways.

“After a year building a payments product internally, we still weren't ready for a broad rollout. dhango gave us a better, fully branded experience for some of our largest clients, and let our team stop managing infrastructure and focus on the product decisions that actually move our business forward. dhango also took on our legacy gateway integrations, reducing the support, IT, and security burden across our organization.”

    Team impact

    Team, refocused

Engineering and product shifted from maintaining payments infrastructure to building what's next for Momentus customers.

    Cost impact

    A fraction

A complete branded payments product at a fraction of the cost and time of building and maintaining it in-house.

    Legacy impact

    Less overhead

dhango manages selected legacy gateways, reducing IT maintenance and security exposure.

    The Result

A branded payments product serving major clients

Momentus rolled the new monetized payments product out to some of its largest clients. Those customers now receive a more polished, intuitive experience than the previous offering, delivered within the Momentus brand and connected naturally to the software they already use.

The operational experience improved as well. With dhango’s built-in workflows, reporting, and payments support, Momentus’s internal teams spend less time answering payment questions, investigating transaction issues, and coordinating across disconnected systems. The company can monetize payments without asking its product and support organizations to become payments infrastructure experts.

For customers that continue to bring their own gateway, dhango now manages selected legacy integrations on Momentus’s behalf. That gives those customers continuity while reducing the integration maintenance handled by Momentus IT and limiting the company’s exposure to sensitive payment data.

The result is a stronger customer experience and a new source of payment revenue with far less internal overhead: engineering is no longer tied up in day-to-day infrastructure work, support and IT have less to manage, security exposure is lower, and Momentus gets a complete branded payments product at a fraction of the cost of building it in-house.

    The difference

From maintaining unmonetized gateway integrations and a payments build that still needed years to scale, to a payments product customers love.
