The Problem
Merchant approval delays and held funds
Studio Designer launched StudioPay, their in-house payments offering, in 2023 on a PayFac-as-a-Service platform. Within the first year they encountered repeated issues of their clients’ funds being held for unreasonable hold periods due to the processor’s risk controls. In addition, merchant approval during the onboarding process would sometimes be delayed by a week or more.
Studio Designer decided to move forward with Stripe Connect and FNBO after evaluating a number of potential partners. Stripe would solve much of their pain allowing full control of the onboarding process for card processing. In addition, FNBO would allow for fine grain control of ACH processing and the ability to support high ticket transactions. Adyen was added as well without writing a line of code or having to manage porting of merchant or token data.
With processing partners in place, they were now faced with an important question - do they spend months rebuilding their payment infrastructure, or is there a more efficient path?
